Review..." This author is new to me, but I came across her IG post, so checked it out. I mostly listen to books instead of reading to save time. I've been struggling maintaining interest in the story and the narrator. To find a good match can be difficult when not in the mood. I found Steffy Smith's writer voice so pleasant with just enough angst and just enough heat. Isla Ross, the narrator's voice, was very soothing as well, and I can't be sure, but she had a much nicer Scottish accent than the other narrators. I'd recommend if you are in the mood for an engaging story, likeable characters, and some heat - a nice middle ground without too much whiplash ;) "
Alexander MacNichol, the epitome of a hot-blooded Highland warrior, loyal to Scotland, lover of women, and a merry time. The last thing he expected from his King, Robert the Bruce, was an order to marry a whey-faced English lass from the wrong side of the border.
Lady Grace Worthington, one moment betrothed to an Englishman she fears and the next, thrust into the arms of a Scottish brute named MacNichol. All the while, battling her own inner demons.
Yet, life in the Highlands is not at all what Grace expects. When their short-lived happiness and joy is marred by cryptic messages and runes that whisper of evil, Alex and Grace will have to forge something deeper to protect one another from the ultimate betrayal.
I found this Historical Romance covered all the bases for an entertaining read. The characters are well drawn and are not one-dimensional which is a common error that takes a good story down. This author has the talent and the imagination to bring us many hours of good reading! Thank you.
As an avid reader and not a professional editor, I consider 3 things when evaluating a book: 1. A good story, 2. A good storyteller, 3. A technically well produced book. This book meets all of the criteria. I really enjoyed this Historical Romance and will look forward to more from this author. I found it compelling and a sweet romance.
Laird Jamie Murray is responsible not only for his clan but his three younger siblings - Duncan, Rory and Jennet. Set in the 14th century, Jamie is a confidante of Robert the Bruce, best friends with the most braw man in Scotland Alex MacNichol and falls head over heels for the fiery Isobel MacNeil. A pinch of lore & magic, evil plots brewing & passionate love blossoming, Jamie & Izzy will keep you on your toes! When the Bruce tells Alex he must we an English lass Jamie&Izzy are by his side, with Izzy taking Grace under her wing. Runecasting, deception, inner healing & more passion unfolds with Grace&Alex.
My stories are all fiction with loose facts threaded throughout. A storyteller is featured in Highland Hearts, his name is Arliss.
He travels the countryside as a storyteller, an entertainer regaling battles, history, lore and ends each of his performances with a story that has a pointed moral.
I will not spoil the surprise but read/listen closely to the stories that he shares, with a Scottish twist of course and see if 1) you know the fable and 2) know the moral.
I am a history nerd of many periods. Medieval Scotland, especially before and during the reign of Robert the Bruce!
Scotland is a beautiful place filled with castles, mystery, magic, heartache, close bonds all set against a rich tapestry of history. I tend to leave the battles out though and stick to finding a happily ever after!
I love the research that comes with writing historical romance. The hours listening Scottish Gaelic in Twelve Weeks by Collins Dictionaries and reading The Naughty Little Book of Gaelic by Michael Newton just to use a handful of phrases! Scouring the internet for a castle without a popular history and finding Abercross (Aberscors) Castle which once did house Murray's! This list could go on & on...
